Very small world isn't it. Passchendaele was a defining moment in Canadian history on the global stage.

From the global stage to here in the small village of Combe Down. Harry Patch's coffin passed through the lovely Avenue of lime trees on its way to its final resting place in Monkton churchyard.Your four year old godson Thomas joined us and many locals, lining its route. He had earlier asked us "What is war?''....as Wordsworth put it"the child is father of the man"
Mum, Dad, and Thomas xxxxxxx

And Harry Patch sang in the choir of Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down, just like you did.

  • "Power can be exercised responsibly only so long as it remains insecure"
    Ralph Nader, apparently.
  • "Don't let tomorrow steal from today"
Or: sufficient unto the day the evil thereof.
  • "I am a wild party"
Kim Mitchell. I thank you. From the bottom of my rockin' heart.
  • "If you're not falling over, you're not trying"
Grazed knees are the sign of a life lived.
  • "While the cat's away, the mouse will drink"
    Ah, my wife.
  • "Sprint while you can"
From my good friend Jason. Initially about running, but I thought it makes good sense in a general way too.
  • "The only way to do something is to do it"
Sounds stupid, but a lot of the time you think you're doing things because you're thinking about doing them. You only get in the water by jumping off the side.
  • "Fruit on the table, yoghurt in the fridge"
What my sister and I heard growing up when we asked if there was dessert. Not quite as alluring.
  • "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"
    Oldie. Goodie.
